Fantastic way for me to care zero about the coming and goings of roster until the week of the first game.

AJ Abassi signed the other month from West Virginia State already in the portal. Must have been a big talent gap / recruiting fail

Definitely, when I saw his commit it screamed PWO, but not sure he was or not.

Quote:AJ Abbasi | Defensive Lineman | 6-4 | 289 | Woodbridge, Va. | West Virginia State

Has two seasons of eligibility remaining
Spent one season at West Virginia State (2023) where he redshirted
Spent two seasons at Hudson Valley Community College (2021-22)
Tallied 15 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks while at HVCC

At this point I’m starting to lose entire interest in college football. This portal **** needs to stop. If Ponds ends up at Indiana I’m going to be pissed. NCAA needs to stop this **** now. I can’t be the only one who feels this way.

The NCAA does not want this. It’s the players….

Highly doubt he ends up at Indiana as he would have left back in December. Much more likely that he was tampered with and we will see him go to a big school and get a nice check.

I have no idea where he goes, but the roster turnover after spring ball changes everything. Cig may have seen a need or lost a player to injury/portal, and now he has money and a spot that he didn't in December.

Seems those who usually have decent info think he is headed to IU.

The NCAA can put a halt to it if they had the balls.

In light of recent court proceedings, how exactly is the NCAA going to halt this? I honestly do not see a legal path forward for them on the transfer and NIL front, the cat is out of the bag and the P2 are making more money than ever.

The only thing I can think of would be to implement a policy where if you transfer you have to wait an entire year to play.

RE: 2024 Spring Football Portal opens up April 15
We've reached a point where about 15 schools are running the NCAA and they know it. If the NCAA does something to pi$$ them off, the NCAA is dead and those 15 schools become their own thing entirely. Even the way the G5 commissioners treated the playoff negotiating over the winter tells you everything you need to know.

That was already beaten in the courts for multiple time transfers, for first time transfer it would never hold up. Can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Why can't we do contracts for whatever length of time is negotiated between player and school?

What incentive does the student athlete have to agreed to and sign such a contract? If every school did it, it might work. Even if they did, the gaining school would just pay any fee/penalty like they do now for coaches. It would benefit the big schools who can afford to do that, not JMU. Also, would a contract make them be considered an employee?

Financial security would be the incentive. But as you get to at the end, I’m sure the employee issue is preventing this concept at current. Seems like a decent idea and the next evolution of college athlete compensation, though it would certainly come with a metric ton of additional ramifications.

Not least of which, college athletes would have much greater impetus to form a union.

None of us complained or worried when Vad Lee, Ben DeNucci, and many, many others came in and made us relevant. No need to worry or complain now as long as we have compentcy at the top, which clearly we do.
